How to change your server's Minecraft version or software

Changing versions takes a minute. Back up first, because worlds and plugins don't always travel well.

Change version or software

  1. Take a backup of your world.
  2. Stop your server.
  3. Open Change version in the server panel.
  4. Choose the server software and Minecraft version you want, then apply the change.
  5. Start the server again.

Before you switch

Older Minecraft versions may not be able to open a world that was upgraded to a newer version. That is why the backup comes first.

Plugins and mods must match the new version and software. After switching, check each one and update or remove those that don't support it.

Common questions

Can I go back to the old version?
Restore the backup you took before switching. Opening an upgraded world on an older version may not work.
