How to make a free Minecraft server
A free Kixa server is set up right away. No card, no download, and your friends can join from the Kixa lobby.
What you get on the free plan
The free plan costs €0 and needs no payment card. It includes 1.25 GB of RAM, 15 player slots, 7.5 GB of storage and a shared CPU. The server sleeps when nobody is online and wakes up again when someone picks it in the Kixa lobby.
Each account can have two free servers, with one running at a time. If you later need a server that stays on when empty, you can move the same server to a paid plan. Your world, plugins and settings stay.
Create your server
- Sign up at kixa.host with an email address and a password.
- Confirm your email with the link we send you. You can look around the dashboard first, but creating or starting a server needs a confirmed email.
- Choose Create your server and give it a name. The name becomes your address: name.kixa.host.
- Pick your server software and Minecraft version, for example Paper for plugins or Fabric for mods.
- Choose the Free plan and accept the Minecraft EULA. A free server is set up right away.
Get your friends on
On Minecraft Java, friends join play.kixa.host, open the compass server selector and choose your server. Turn on Lobby listing in Settings so your server shows up in the selector.
Players on Bedrock (phones, tablets and Windows) can add bedrock.kixa.host to reach the lobby. Consoles can't add servers yet.
Make it yours
From the dashboard you can install plugins or mods, edit files, change the Minecraft version, manage players and take backups. Add friends under Team if they should help run the server.
Common questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes. The free plan is €0 and needs no payment card. It sleeps when nobody is online, which keeps it free to run.
- Do I need to keep my computer on?
- No. The server runs on Kixa, not your computer, so friends can join while you are offline.
- Can I upgrade later without losing my world?
- Yes. Move the same server to a paid plan from the dashboard. Your world, plugins and settings stay.
